How T-Mobile YNOW Simplified Wireless-as-a-Service with LotusFlare

The Challenge: Eliminating Friction in MVNO Launches

T-Mobile US recognized that the traditional path to launching a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) was slow and complex. Prospective MVNOs faced significant friction:

  • Complex Setup: MVNOs had to navigate regulatory hurdles, manage billing and support, and set up distribution channels.
  • Slow Time-to-Market: The time-to-market often exceeded a year, with even minor offer adjustments taking weeks or months.

T-Mobile Wholesale aimed to create a Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) platform that would drastically streamline and simplify an MVNO launch, eliminating the need for prior telco experience and allowing partners to concentrate on branding, marketing, and sales efforts.

The Solution: YNOW as a One-Stop Shop Powered by DNO Cloud

T-Mobile US selected LotusFlare to power its MVNE platform and services, streamlining the go-to-market process for new MVNOs. T-Mobile YNOW (Your Name, Our Wireless) is the business line powered by this platform.

LotusFlare was chosen for its key strengths:

  • Expertise: Designing internet-grade, end-to-end customer experiences.
  • Technology: Cloud-native, microservices-based architecture.
  • Track Record: Proven track record of fast delivery.

The YNOW MVNE platform was built using LotusFlare DNO Cloud, leveraging key SaaS components and services to provide a comprehensive, pre-integrated solution.

Key components implemented included:

  • Core Platform Capabilities: Product catalog, pricing, converged billing, SIM inventory, subscription management, and data analytics.
  • Modular Services: Self-service web/app, e-commerce, customer care, CRM, payments & tax management.

The Outcome: The Plug-and-Play MVNE and SmartLess Mobile

LotusFlare worked directly with T-Mobile teams to deliver the T-Mobile YNOW platform in five months. This rapid development resulted in a “plug-and-play” MVNE, achieving:

  • Accelerated Launch: Enabling partners to launch in months, not years.
  • Cost Reduction: Lower startup and operational costs.
  • Strategic Focus: Allowing MVNOs to focus on brand, marketing, and sales while T-Mobile handles network operations.

Proving the platform’s concept and agility, the T-Mobile YNOW platform was used to launch SmartLess Mobile, an innovative new MVNO derived from the popular podcast featuring Hollywood actors Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman.

The DNO Cloud platform also equipped YNOW and future partners with tools for sustained growth, including data-driven insights, white-labeled front-end development, and the ability to expand beyond wireless to offer non-telco products.

“LotusFlare is a key partner in T-Mobile’s efforts to expand our industry-leading wholesale services and bring a fresh perspective to the space. Given their dedication to innovation and cloud-native technology, we are thrilled to team with Lotus Flare and offer more solutions to our customers.”
